About this site

Almost every page you'll find about nude cruises is owned by someone selling one. The operators write about their own ships. The agencies write about the sailings they earn commission on. The travel press writes one story a year, usually with a slightly embarrassed tone, and gets the basics wrong.

This site exists because that leaves the actual questions unanswered. What does it cost. What are the rules. Which one am I even looking at. Will I be the only person there who isn't a swinger.

Who writes it

I write under a pen name. Anyone who has been on one of these boats will understand why, and I'd rather say that plainly than have you wonder.

I'm the male half of a couple, and I've been travelling in this world for more than twenty years. We've moved in and out of the lifestyle across that time, which means I've seen it from several angles rather than one. I've been on nude cruises. I've stayed at naturist resorts and at lifestyle resorts, which are not the same holiday and are written about constantly as though they were.

Twenty years is long enough to have watched the whole category change. Ships got bigger. The naturist and lifestyle sides drifted further apart while the language describing them stayed identical. And the number of people quietly booking these trips who would never describe themselves as being in the lifestyle went up a great deal.

For about the last decade I've also worked on the marketing side of travel, which taught me the parts you don't see as a passenger: how full-ship charters are structured, why the fares are priced the way they are, why cancellation terms are so much harsher than an ordinary cruise, and why the marketing so rarely tells you which kind of ship you're actually looking at.

None of that makes me neutral about whether these holidays are worth taking. I think they are. It does make me neutral about which one you take, because I don't get paid either way.

What this site is not

We don't sell cabins. There is no booking engine here and there never will be.

We take no commission. Not from Bare Necessities, not from Bliss, not from Desire or Temptation, not from any agency. If that ever changes, this page changes first and the disclosure goes on every page before a single link does.

We're not owned by an operator. Nobody reviews this before it publishes.

That independence is the entire point. An operator will always steer you toward its own ship. An agency will always steer you toward whatever it can book. Neither is dishonest, it's just what they're for. There was nobody in this category whose only job was telling you the truth about all of it, so here we are.

How the numbers get checked

Every page carries a last verified date at the bottom. That is not decoration.

Fares, sailing dates, ports, ship names and rules are all read directly from the operators' own published material and dated on the day they were checked. Where something is quoted, it's quoted, so you can see the exact wording rather than my paraphrase of it. Where a figure comes from press reporting rather than the operator, it says so.

Where something is an industry impression rather than a published fact, it says that too. The estimate that up to half the passengers on a lifestyle cruise aren't participating is a good example. Agents who sell these trips will tell you that, and it matches what the operators imply, but nobody has published a survey. So the site says exactly that rather than dressing an anecdote as data.

Cruise pricing moves constantly and charters sell out. Always confirm with the operator before you book anything. This site is a guide, not a booking service, and it can be out of date the day after it's checked.
