Lifestyle and swinger cruises

Three operators run these: Bliss, Desire and Temptation. They are couples-focused, adults-only, sexually open, and they charter whole ships from mainstream cruise lines.

They are not naturist cruises, and this page exists mainly because the industry does a poor job of saying so.

First, the distinction nobody makes clearly

Both categories get called "clothing-optional cruises," which is how people end up on the wrong ship.

Bare Necessities, the main naturist operator, states it about as bluntly as possible:

"Bare Necessities cruises are strictly non-sexual in nature. If you are seeking a lifestyle or swinger experience, we are not the appropriate cruise for you."

Booking the wrong one is the single most common mistake in this category. Ten questions will sort you out.

The three operators

Bliss Cruise

The biggest, and the most straightforward about what it is. Their FAQ answers "Is this a swinger cruise?" with "Yes."

Couples-focused to the point that singles are effectively excluded — permitted only as part of a couple's threesome, and Bliss describes that as "an extremely small percentage" of passengers.

Six sailings scheduled through April 2028 on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships, from four to seven nights. Prepaid gratuities and taxes are included in the cabin price, which is unusual and welcome. Clothing-optional areas are the upper exterior decks, at sea only.

Temptation Cruises

Run by Original Group out of Cancún, sailing on Norwegian ships from Miami. Two Caribbean sailings scheduled, October 2026 and October 2027.

The distinguishing feature is the unlimited open bar included in the fare, at $185–200 per person per night. Once you account for drinks, it's usually the cheapest way into the category.

Uses precise language worth noting: separate "au-naturel" and "top-optional" areas. Top-optional means tops off, bottoms on.

Desire Cruises

Also Original Group, positioned slightly more upmarket and intimate than Temptation. The programme has included Mediterranean, West Indies, Morocco and Asia itineraries.

Smaller and less frequently scheduled than the other two, so worth checking directly for current sailings.

Half the ship may not be swinging

This is the thing nobody says out loud, and it changes who these cruises are actually for.

Travel agents who sell these sailings estimate that as many as half the passengers on a lifestyle cruise aren't participating. They book for the energy: theme nights, clothing-optional decks, an adults-only environment where nobody is judging anybody. Then they go to dinner and go to bed.

That figure is an industry impression from agents who book these trips, not published data. We haven't found a survey to confirm it. Treat it as informed anecdote.

The direction, though, is documented. Bliss says it themselves, in the same FAQ answer where they confirm it is a swinger cruise:

"Bliss Cruise is also a wonderful environment even for those that aren't in the lifestyle but want a fun sexy clothing-optional environment."

There's even a term for this cohort now: dirty vanilla, sometimes spicy vanilla. Outwardly conventional couples who enjoy the environment and dabble at the edges, or don't. The vocabulary, explained properly.

So if you've been assuming these ships are closed to you, they mostly aren't. Consent governs everything, nothing is compulsory, and declining is unremarkable. Whether you'd enjoy it depends on how you feel about the atmosphere rather than what you intend to do.

What they have in common

Couples, not singles. All three are built around male-female couples. If you're travelling alone, a naturist charter is the far better fit.

Consent governs everything. Every operator publishes rules on it and every one reserves the right to remove people. Temptation's phrasing: "no means no, and it must be respected."

No photography in the sensitive areas. Cameras and phones are banned in clothing-optional zones, playrooms, workshops and during theme nights, across all three.

Dress codes are real. These aren't nude ships. Dining venues require clothing, and Bliss bans swimwear, tank tops and T-shirts from restaurants at dinner entirely.

Full-ship charters. You cannot book any of them through Royal Caribbean, Celebrity or Norwegian directly.

Nothing is compulsory. All three insist you set your own pace, and a meaningful share of passengers attend for the atmosphere without participating in anything else.

Which one

Cheapest all-in: Temptation, because of the open bar.

Biggest and most established: Bliss, with the most sailings and the most predictable programme.

Shortest first trip: Bliss Fiesta, four nights from Tampa in February 2027.

Most intimate: Desire.

Common questions

What's the difference between a lifestyle cruise and a swinger cruise? Nothing. "Lifestyle" is the industry's preferred term for the same thing. Bliss uses both interchangeably.

Do I have to participate in anything? No. All three operators state that guests set their own pace, and consent governs every interaction. Plenty of guests come for the clothing-optional atmosphere alone.

Can single men book? Practically, no. All three are structured around couples. Bliss permits singles only as part of a threesome with a couple.

Is the whole ship clothing-optional? No, on any of them. Designated areas only, usually the upper exterior decks and only at sea. Dining venues always require clothing.

Are these cheaper than a naturist cruise? Per night, often yes, particularly Temptation with its included bar. But sailings are shorter, so the total trip cost can land in a similar place.

Can I take photos? Not in clothing-optional areas, playrooms, workshops or theme nights. Elsewhere, ask first.
